Question: How to handle spare part classification and ensure data quality in multi-company collaboration?
Answer: Classification and coding of components are essential for efficient data retrieval, analysis and systems integration.
We are currently producing a prototype to illustrate how we will handle classification and coding
There will be different classification systems in the parts database. The main classifications will be mechanical elements like bearings, shafts, motors, tightening/holding, etc. These types of classifications will be standard within the data, and when new data is loaded, the system will automatically try to attach these types of classifications to parts.
However, the experience is also that various organizations will provide their own classification data, so the parts database will also support what is referred to as “adaptive classification”. These data will be loaded and the more occurrences coming from various companies the more accurate the classification system will be to be used across companies.
Also, remember that the parts database will also embrace RDS-PP, which is a more accurate way of classifying things. However, RDS-PP is still more sophisticated to apply and use compared to classification, so it must be assumed that RDS-PP will be longer underway. Next, RDS-PP, for now, has their own variations, which the parts database will handle.
The prototype well be posted at this page soon.
