Question: With the spare part collaboration in place, how will the marketplace compare with other wind marketplaces?
Input from O2O SPARES:
Creating the Spares Alliance as a step one will provide you with 1) services that no other marketplace has and 2) a mission driven by wind asset owners that differentiate from all other marketplaces.
In the feasibility study, we had the below comparison of marketplaces:
Looking at this comparison it is Vestas Convento that will be our main competitor.
Services that no other marketplace has:
Spares Alliance provides services not found on any other marketplaces. This is achieved as it is created by wind asset owners in collaboration:
a) Suppliers – having energy companies share their suppliers on a component level will give us more suppliers and better supplier information than anyone else.
b) Alternative components - Collaborating on alternative components will give the WTG owners 1) the option of choosing alternative components and 2) each alternative component gives you a new landscape of suppliers.
c) Exchange of components – digitally linking our spare part databases enables us to have an exchange of components among wind asset owners
d) Spare Part Pools – The Spares Alliance gives us an infrastructure that enables our members to mark up components and participating companies. The commercial terms for managing the spare part pool needs to be created by participating companies.
e) Detective bureau – With the ambition to map the component's master data we will proceed into the warehouses to manually map components. Several energy companies are already doing this today and it is also part of the services provided within the forestry spare part collaboration.
The other marketplaces do not have a)-e) in their scope.
A mission driven by wind asset owner that differentiate from all other marketplaces
In conclusion, the biggest difference is that the Spares Alliance has a completely different mission, driven by the energy companies.
We want to unlock the secrecy around who is the original equipment manufacturer for components (component master data & reference data) and present that to the wind asset owners in your format - article number, taxation code etc. This is unique as no spare part sales organization has the interest to make it easier for you identify parts and likely acquire them elsewhere.
As an organization created for you and partly sponsored by you, O2O SPARES would however have no other purpose than supporting this mission.
To control and digitize supply chain processes, you must have the component's master data. To remove manual steps in daily spare parts management and instead include machine-to-machine steps, you must also have the component's master data.
The other marketplaces do not have the ambition to map component master data in their business model whatsoever.
The last player to ever give you any component master data is an OEM-owned marketplace such as Vestas Convento.
